Good evening, everyone. Glen asked: <<I have a fairly new DC6A (awesome instrument). However, I would like to play an ordinary CD on it and record while I play along. I can't figure out how to do it, if its possible. Is it possible?>> Check out this press release on Yamaha's web site: http://www.giles.com/yamaha1/pr/trade/NAMM/W02/pr/piano/pianosmart.html Yamaha demonstrated a new technology at the January NAMM show called PianoSmart. PianoSmart makes it possible to record your own piano part while listening to an audio CD played in the Disklavier's CD drive. The Disklavier will play back both the CD and the MIDI file together and take care of the synchronization issues. This works only with the Mark III series Disklaviers, which means the Disklaviers with the letter A in their model number. It does not work with other Disklaviers which have a DCD1 CD drive added. I think that PianoSmart is not yet officially implemented on the Mark III. I could be wrong, but I think that this will involve a free flash ROM upgrade to existing Mark IIIs and will be available in the summer. Yamaha has announced that they will add this type of recording to its existing software library. Therefore, Yamaha's published Disklavier software will consist of piano solos on floppy disk, piano with tone module orchestrations on floppy disk, piano and digital audio on CD, and piano with digital audio on floppy disk. In the latter case, you buy the piano part on a floppy disk and then purchase the commercial CD with which is it coordinated from your favorite audio CD store. Regards, PianoBench
