Re: [disklavier] emagic micrologic - help!

2002-05-10 by PianoBench@aol.com

Good evening, Tony.

<< thanks for the advice. I thought I'd email you directly since you were
kind
enough to try to help me. I guess I should elaborate on my set-up a bit as
my situation is a bit unusual.>>

I am happy to try to help.

<<I have a MX100A disklavier-no tone generator and only two midi out
settings-delay out/keyboard out. The midiman USB device has three lights
that indicate 1. USB activity, 2. Midi In activity (signal from piano) and
3. Midi out activity (signal from Macintosh).

Micrologic is a sequencing program that takes advantage or links through
OMS...

What is happening when I am set up now at the midiman level is:
1. a constant light indicating USB activity>>

The Disklavier is one of many Yamaha products that send MIDI messages called
active sensing. Therefore, I would expect that the MIDI In light would always
be on and that would probably cause the USB light to be on, too.

<<2. I can consistently get a test signal from OMS to actually generate a
Midi
Out light activity as well as a random key played on the MX100.>>

This means that OMS and your connection to the Disklavier are fine. If you
had a tone generator to receive on all of the other MIDI channels, you would
hear quite a noise each time you did an output test within OMS Setup. Since
you do not have the tone generator, you are just hearing whatever random note
was sent on the MIDI channel that the Disklavier is set to receive on.

<<3. There is a constant light on indicating Midi In activity (when the piano
is set to delay out.>>

As I mentioned, this is normal. However, if you play and note AND the
Disklavier is set to Keyboard Out, then I would expect that light to flicker
as data is sent through the interface. Similarly, if you leave the Disklavier
set to Delay Out and try playing a disk, I would expect that light to flicker.

<<However I can't get the sequencer software to send a signal of any sort as
determined both at the midiman or at the piano level. The sequencer does
show tones being generated, but there is no activity at the midiman level...>>

This is definitely a problem between your sequencer and OMS. I am not sure
what to say about that. If you go into your sequencer's MIDI setup dialog
box, you should have several choices for MIDI Out that are offered by OMS,
because OMS, theoretically, can talk to many different devices. I would check
out that dialog box and pick the output setting that matches the output port
on your MIDIMan interface as shown in your OMS Setup program.

I guess at this point the problem is somewhere between the sequencer and
OMS... >>

Let me know if I can be of further help.

Regards,
George
