answer, since after cleaning it up ith GN midi it did play, but my curiosity got
the best of me.
Not that I' would be able to fix it
with the hex editor but it satisfy me.

The file has a RIFF header in front of the MIDI header. If you
delete the first 20 bytes in a hex editor (so that the file now
begins with MThd), and save it, it plays perfectly.
That's a programmer's technical answer to the question. What's the
best answer using common everyday tools you'd find around your
computer or piano?
