Having heard both, I agree, there is a big difference in the Pro technology. The difference in playback accuracy is not subtle. The technical specs are slightly different from what Dave quoted, though. The Pro's hardware supports recording and playback with 10-bit accuracy (1024 levels) vs. 7-bit (128 levels) for the non-Pro units. These are what the hardware supports; in practice, the playback accuracy of the Pro is supposedly somewhere around 8-9 bits due to mechanical limitations.
