Carol, while you are correct that the MX80 will not
play .mid files, it will play ANY midi on channel 1
brought in through the midi in port.  I have driven
mine using any number of midi devices.  Connecting a
laptop and driving the piano with cakewalk is a fine
plan.  The problem comes when you use files with other
than piano solo data.  Without a sound card you can't
do it, and there are delay problems to overcome in
order to get everything syncronized, but it can be
done.
