Carol, while you are correct that the MX80 will not play .mid files, it will play ANY midi on channel 1 brought in through the midi in port. I have driven mine using any number of midi devices. Connecting a laptop and driving the piano with cakewalk is a fine plan. The problem comes when you use files with other than piano solo data.
