ÿþ<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content="text/html; charset=unicode" http-equiv=Content-Type> <META content="MSHTML 5.00.2722.2800" name=GENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>Suresh,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>I had a bad day yesterday.&nbsp; I'm much calmer today.&nbsp; As far as which Disklavier--I'll have to find out, but I think it's DKC600 IIXG or something.&nbsp; Brand new 2000, with all the bells and whistles.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>My expectations?&nbsp; That I could "go on the Internet and get tons and tons of music to download to play on the piano.&nbsp; Rock, blues, jazz, classical, country--you name it."&nbsp; That's a quote from my dealer.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>Well, I'm finding that, other than classical, most MIDI'S won't play on the Disklavier because&nbsp; contemporary songs don't feature the piano as lead.&nbsp; One needs to buy a software program, which I did (for $75) in order to edit each MIDI.&nbsp; Well, that's been so exasperating for me that I'm ready to give up.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>Disappointment?&nbsp; I'm upset&nbsp;mainly about the MIDIS, but also, my piano is so loud that it's impossible to&nbsp; entertain guests in the adjacent dining room.&nbsp; You know, a little soft dinner music?&nbsp; Three times they've tried to lower the volume, but it's still way too loud.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4></FONT>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>But my Disklavier is wired into a whole house sound system, so in order to hear the background music, the&nbsp;receiver volume must be cranked up to&nbsp;"one o'clock" on the dial.&nbsp; Well, you know what happens?&nbsp; The background music is earsplittingly loud in the&nbsp;rest of the house because the piano is so loud.&nbsp; And then later, when I want to listen to a CD, if I don't remember to check the receiver volume, it blows the speakers out the walls.&nbsp; I have huge rock speakers that I'm particularly concerned about ruining.&nbsp; I've never before had to have the volume knob above "eight or nine o'clock", which&nbsp;usually makes dogs howl.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>So, now I'm told I need to purchase a pre-amp to hook onto the Disklavier box.&nbsp; It only costs $100 and Yamaha just happens to sell it!&nbsp; Well, after spending a small fortune on the piano itself, I'm offended that I have to keep purchasing more add-ons.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>Lastly, my dealer hasn't had&nbsp;much experience with the Disklavier, and while he's a wonderful man, and willing to help--he just doesn't know enough.&nbsp; However, I'm not faulting him, after all it's a Caveat Emptor world.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>The upshot is this:&nbsp; For a piano that costs the better part of $30,000, one shouldn't have to have a degree in electronic engineering, nor months and months free to "play around" with it in order to figure out how to work it.&nbsp; I haven't, and I don't.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>&nbsp;</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>So far, it's&nbsp;been a huge mistake.&nbsp;&nbsp;Around here, we've been calling it "Diane's Folly".</FONT>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>Diane (dinycat)</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV></BODY></HTML>
