I'm glad you got things working, did any of my "wordy" suggestions 
help or did it just confuse you?

As far as the MIDI tone and the keys being pressed...

I've run into this problem before.  I believe it has something to do 
with the fact that your stopping the MIDI stream before it can send 
the "note off" information.  

When you play through the disklavier, it automatically does a reset 
when you stop.  What I've done is set up a midi file that is only a 
reset.  When you stop a MIDI file, if this happens you can quickly 
send the reset file to shut everything down.  You may be able to 
configure your MIDI editor to send out a reset when you interrupt 
playback. 

When you start again you said it plays fine.  Most MIDI sequences 
reset everything before the song begins to play, this is probably why 
it works.
