Alex, Probably the most satisfactory solution to your loud piano problem would turn out to be by installing an acoustic blanket or baffle in your piano. Other possibilities are: * Put the piano in a larger room. (Understandably, this may not be a practical answer for you.) * Add carpeting or drapes to the room. This has the drawback that most sound absorbing materials not only reduce the reverb time in a room (giving an unpleasant dry sound) but absorb the treble sounds more than the bass. * Reduce note velocities either by modifying the files you that you play or by turning down the DKV volume. This has the disadvantage of reducing the dynamic range of the music. It would be nice to retain the full dynamic range of PianoSoft files by not adjusting their velocity values. Downloaded files not recorded on a DKV and that have note velocities exceeding 95 are good candidates for velocity reduction. The absorption of an acoustic blanket or baffle is fairly flat across the spectrum and so will not color the sound appreciably. The attenuation is limited to about half-power, which still may not be enough for you. Yamaha purportedly has measured the attenuation of some blankets and baffles. You can read about the results described by a commercial interest at http://www.pianosupply.com/acoustic/ Alex Chao wrote: > Carol: > You really peaked my interest when you wrote about > having a technician set the ppp value for the DKV to > play more quitely.
