[disklavier] Supplementary comments to Survey

1999-12-03 by mcgregorclan@home.com

Dear swap club,

I replied to the survey, but also would like to add comments.

First, thanks to all who contributed. This is a treasure trove. I
feel like a kid in a candy store. I especially appreciate the
Christmas music since it is that time of year for it and I had almost
nothing in that genre.

I don't think we need be concerned about a drop off in activity. We
have picked the low-hanging fruit, and Todd deserves a rest in any
case. As time goes on, other finds will surface, and we'll capture
them. Good luck to us all!

Other comments about contributing:

I work a pretty long day and don't have a great deal of time to sort
thru materials for uploading. Shirt term, what time I do have now
mostly will be dedicated to editing the mateerial already posted. As
you well know, much of it is not specifically set up for Disklavier.
Although SMF files are more universal, we are after all a Disklavier
User Group. The ESEQ format is more more useful and convenient for
playing on a Disklavier. But this means the SMF files must be
rechanneled, converted to ESEQ, tracks titles, and preferably an index
file built for a set of songs.

As much as I appreciate the tremendous volume of songs that have been
uploaded, I encourage us now to have an emphasis on edited packages of
tunes that can be downloaded and conveniently played without further
tinkering.

When and if I get some interesting sets built, I'll be glad to upload
them. As Painobench mentioned in his response to my message about
piano volume, the results may not sound the same on all piano, and so
some may have to make further adjustmentss. But at least the basic
dogwork will have been done

My other project is to download and convert to ESEQ the Perfessor Bill
ragtime (and other old) material. Even though we may get that posted,
I urge everyone to go visit his site because of the fantastic
historical notes and the beautiful reproductions of old piano sheet
music covers of the songs (which can be seen enlarged by
double-clicking them.) www.perfessorbill.com

Regards,

Mike McGregor

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
