Re: [disklavier] temporary reply to pianosmart questions

Good afternoon, everyone.

Thanks very much for the information. My laptop does have the Yamaha 'MIDI'
serial driver installed. Unfortunately, when using the Yanaha serial driver,
very often MIDI note or control info gets 'lost' and worse, MIDI notes become
hung, i.e., occasionally I get a MIDI 'on' but never get a MIDI 'off' for random
notes. So I finally bought a MIDI interface a 2 port MidiMan USB model which has
worked great with my Disklavier.

I am glad that you have a working solution. However, I have used Disklavier serial connections quite extensively over the years and never, ever had a problem except when I had a bad cable. Admittedly, most of my use was with a Mac, but I also used the serial connection with PCs occasionally. I should also mention that the Disklavier Pro 2000's built-in Windows computer communicated with the control unit via the serial port. So, I don't think that your experience with the serial port is normal.

I wonder whether you had a bad serial cable, out of date serial driver, or whether something else was messing with serial I/O on your computer.

Regarding the use of a MIDI splitter and merger:

Now that is something that may work. Just got to be careful not to run the PC
sequencer while the DCD1 is going, or all sorts of intersting things would
happen!

This is certainly true! However, some people might find such a sonic collage to be quite interesting.

Thanks so much for your input. By the way, what ever happened to 'In
Concert'?

Lest I put myself in the position of spamming the list regarding a product of my own, I'll answer you briefly and recommend that you contact me further via personal email if you would like.

Cakewalk, the publisher of In Concert, elected not to continue as its publisher (and similarly dumped some of its other products). My partner and I further developed our program and added music notation display. We publish it as Home Concert 2000 under our own company name, TimeWarp Tecnologies.

General info, downloadable demo, and sales information can be found at www.timewarptech.com.
