Hi Budds,
Whilst I was browsing the local computer markets here in Sydney the other
week, I noticed a 2 output USB 2 PCMCIA card for about $45. Your Toshiba would
have a PCMCIA bay available. Then you could buy one of the readily available
USB/ Midi adaptors. Problem solved. As for the rest of it, I see no
problems.

I have an old Toshiba laptop (486) which I use for formatting disks and
coping files to 720k disks to insert into mt Mark 2 disklavier. I was
wondering whether I could have this connected to the Markll via a
Serial/parallel midi interface and use the midi out of the markll piano
control box to connect to my Yamaha Tyros Keyboard to get the Piano soft
sounds? This way I don't have to convert midi files to ESQ format which the
mark 2 controller use. Can this be done?
Also regarding a serial /Parallel midi controller, I could not find any in
shops here in Melbourne Australia. They say that they are not been made
anymore as there is not much demand for them hance the price is much higher.
Some say they can have it imported but a new one cost mush more than the USB
one and no one here can say which one of the two types would be better for
my application. Any comments? Also is there a site where I can locate one
even secondhand at a reasonable cost?
My Toshiba does not have a sound card. Does this matter when you play piano
soft in midi format once I have it connected to the Yamaha tyros keyboard?
rgds
