DGC1A versus DGH1BA

DGC1A versus DGH1BA

2003-10-21 by barrycmccarthy

I am researching these instruments. Can anyone tell me the basic
difference? Looks like one is older than the other, and one can do
transpositions, but the other can't. Is that it?

Thanks.

Re: [disklavier] DGC1A versus DGH1BA

The DGC1A is MUCH better sounding piano than the DGH1BA piano. It is the
newest "price point" piano in that they took a C1 piano and cut enough
corners to be able to sell it cheaper. I believe the GH1B is now
discontinued as they are both the same size. The GC1 piano differs from the
C1 in cabnetry in that the wood under the finish is different, there is no
sustenuto even though there are 3 pedals, and the styling of the music desk
and legs are different. It tunes much cleaner than a GH1B.

The DGH1BA and the DGC1A should both have the same Disklavier features as
they both have an A in the model number - meaning they both have a CD
player. Sometimes these models have been sold as "play-only" models so make
sure they Record. The DGC1A should be a MarkIII with a CD player and have
the Silent feature and all other features of a MarkIII disklavier. I would
think both models will do transpositions.

Re: [disklavier] DGC1A versus DGH1BA

Hi,

I have an old Toshiba laptop (486) which I use for formatting disks and
coping files to 720k disks to insert into mt Mark 2 disklavier. I was
wondering whether I could have this connected to the Markll via a
Serial/parallel midi interface and use the midi out of the markll piano
control box to connect to my Yamaha Tyros Keyboard to get the Piano soft
sounds? This way I don't have to convert midi files to ESQ format which the
mark 2 controller use. Can this be done?

Also regarding a serial /Parallel midi controller, I could not find any in
shops here in Melbourne Australia. They say that they are not been made
anymore as there is not much demand for them hance the price is much higher.
Some say they can have it imported but a new one cost mush more than the USB
one and no one here can say which one of the two types would be better for
my application. Any comments? Also is there a site where I can locate one
even secondhand at a reasonable cost?

My Toshiba does not have a sound card. Does this matter when you play piano
soft in midi format once I have it connected to the Yamaha tyros keyboard?

Hi Budds,
Whilst I was browsing the local computer markets here in Sydney the other week, I noticed a 2 output USB 2 PCMCIA card for about $45. Your Toshiba would have a PCMCIA bay available. Then you could buy one of the readily available USB/ Midi adaptors. Problem solved. As for the rest of it, I see no problems.

Hi Leigh,

many thanks for that advice. Yes I think it should work providing my 486
with windows 95 support the driver. Just intresting to find out which shop
did you see it for that price?

Thanks

Windows 95 lacks USB support altogether. You need Windows 98 as a
minimum. Since Win 98 is basically a Win 95 revision, it shouldn't be
much more taxing for your 486 processor. Don't even think about trying
to upgrade to Win 2000 or XP.

Hi Budds,
I saw this card in one of the stalls in the North Rocks shopping complex Sunday Afternoon Computer market. I would have to go over there on Sunday to see if I could find it again and get the name of the retailer. Todd could be right about Windows 95 not supporting USB and I would check to see if the drivers would work with 95 otherwise 98 would handle it. Maybe with a RAM increase if possible.

When you start adding all these other costs together it might still be cheaper to have a serial/MIDI interface imported. I have also looked around for a serial/MIDI interface and you are right, they are not to be found here in Aus.

Re: [disklavier] DGC1A versus DGH1BA

2003-10-28 by Buddhika Wije

Hi, Thanks Carol and Leigh for your advise.

There are USB to PCMICA cards here too but nothing that would work on a 486
and Windows 95. Infact I think the PCMICA cards with USB only work on
pentium 200 up.

thanks
budds
