I have done this several times.
Right now, I have some MID files tha came from Yamaha FD (.fil) on 
my hard disk.
I did the conversion under XP using giebler utilities.
Both one to upload from FD to Hardisk and one to convert from 
giebler format of ESEQ (not .FIL but .Yxx something I always erase 
this work files) to .MID

Hope this helps

The problem is not with yamaha old DD FDs in old pianos, is with 
Microsoft deciding not to support this media any more.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
