I'll never recall all the details, but a member of the group completely explained this mystery two or three years ago in a posting, probably in early 2000. As memory serves, there are three places a song name can reside on a disk of midis, one of which is the file name itself. The display considers all three in a set prioritized order and displays the first one it finds. My best guess is: 1. A directory file written by the disklavier. 2. A name embedded inside the midi file 3. The name of the file Under no circumstance should you consider this as fact. It is nothing more than a very foggy recollection. Anyone who wants to search the thousands of postings made since the group was founded (not me), will probably uncover the truth. Unfortunately, that's as much as I can remember, but it is consistent with your comment about unpredictability. Perhaps the member that explained it the first time is still listening. Hope this helps. -----Original Message----- From: Sheldon Deluty [mailto:mdshd@...] Sent: Friday, November 21, 2003 8:19 PM To: disklavier@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [disklavier] LCD display is there a foolproof labeling method for midi files to display properly on an xg control unit i find the display of the name is sometimes unpredictable any help would be much appreciated sheldon -----Original Message----- From: Todd Muncy [mailto:inbox1@...] Sent: Friday, November 21, 2003 6:40 PM To: disklavier@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [disklavier] LCD display If the disk has been converted to e-seq Yamaha format, use eexplore and right click on the song file. -----Original Message----- From: CapZ65 [mailto:CapZ65@...] Sent: Friday, November 21, 2003 1:45 PM To: disklavier@yahoogroups.com Subject: [disklavier] LCD display I'm just beginning to learn how to work with midis. I use Cakewalk to edit and the dkvutils to convert to Yamaha. I have many questions as I am just starting out. I took my first piano lesson last week! One question I have; how do I edit the song title and author that appears on the LCD display when a midi plays? Sometimes it displays the name, sometimes a .mid filename but mostly it reads "untitled". Any info is greatly appreciated. Also, any other tips on how best to use Cakewalk to convert midis would help many on this board. It seems to be a popular program.
