If you can't source the chip from Yamaha, try contacting 
PianoQuest.  They bring in Disklavier pianos from Japan (grey 
market) and completely refurbish them.  One of the things they do is 
replace the control unit chip so that the on-screen text will read 
in English.  They can probably help you out.

I contemplated buying my Disklavier from PianoQuest, but ended up 
buying a new one from an authorized Yamaha dealer.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
