Re: [disklavier] P-e-C zip files

2004-02-09 by Chine-Chine Wang

The incompatibility (only happens when using Windows XP's native compressed
folder feature) is with the directory name inside the piano-e-competition
zip files. The comma is the culprit. I was able to reproduce the problem
with completely different files under a directory name that includes a
comma (and problem vanished once re-zipped using a directory name without
comma).

Now, for end users the problem is easy to deal with - just install any of a
number of free utilities (such as WinZip) and the downloaded PeC files can
be extracted. Let's remember that prior to Windows XP, users had to do
that in order to unzip ANY zipped file anyway. But if Yamaha wants to
maximize the distribution and usage of these files, it would be nice to
have them re-zipped for download (with either comma-free directory names,
or simply without the extra directory level).
