Re: [disklavier] Anyone Knows?

2004-02-11 by Daniel J. O'Connor

Dear All:

Horse Hockey!

The likelihood that the actual cable is different in different markets is remote. Most companies subscribe to quality and cost programs that benefit from greater numbers for each discrete part. My experience selling for Hitachi as a case in point.

Much more likely is a "marketing strategy" that Yamaha does not want to support a piano that is purchased outside of the feudal markets that have been laid down by corporate dictum.

When we bought our Disklavier "used" the local Yamaha dealer suggested that I would not be able to have Yamaha service...he was argumentative and grandstanding...and I believe that this is a strategy to intimidate the customer to only buy from the local dealer. When challenged he recanted and acknowledged that they would indeed service the USA sold and delivered serial number.

Someday Yamaha will wake up to the fact that they have an outstanding product that should be supported with great aplomb no matter where the piano sits or from whom it was acquired. The dealers will then be able to focus in on great service and support which will make their sales flourish.

And opinion of one.

Cheers

Dan

It could also be that Yamaha of America never had a
part for a model like that. Electric power is
different all over the world, and the volts coming into
electronics are not the same. That's why electric
cables are different. You don't know how much voltage
is going thru what wire to whatever doodad on some
circuit board. It's probably like Volkswagen of
Germany with all those Passats in their showroom today
being expected to have a part for a Volkswagen Rabbit
bought in the United States in 1982. You just wouldn't
expect such a thing even though both products said
Volkswagen on them.

Yamaha is not one, but many corporations that do
business different ways in different parts of the
world. I went to the Yamaha website and clicked on
"international" They have links to customer service in
different places in the world at:
http://www.global.yamaha.com/products/music/pianos.html.
I sometimes have trouble here in Washington D.C
servicing the pianos in the homes of diplomats from all
over the world. They may all have the same brand name,
but they can be so very, very different. In the global
economy parts is not always parts!
