MaxMSP is a programming environment for both Midi (the Max part) and Audio (the MSP part) processing. You can find out more about it here: http://www.cycling74.com/products/maxmsp.html I haven't seen the winter issue of accent yet, but based on what you said, it's likely to be midi based "toys". If so, these could work on any midi based instrument including the disklaviers.
