Thanks for the info. The key's themselves have some sort of intelligence as far as from the computer to the unit, in other words, the velocity changes when playing a midi file. Seems logical that if the unit could interpret incoming data along with velocity changes and pass them to the keyboard, it could be done in reverse... but maybe that's not the case. Do you know if this is the case for sure on my unit or are you basing the information on the fact the unit does not have any internal recording mechanism? I've been all over the Yamaha site and can't seem to find much info. on the subject. Sounds like most of the Mark III's have the recording, silent mode, and cd built in. The piano itself is lacking either sensors under the keys (which are used in DC2 and smaller grands to sense and measure key speed) or hammer sensors (which are used in DC3 and larger grands to measure hammer velocity). Yamaha does not make retrofit kits to add these components. Sounds like your best option is to trade your piano for one that has the features you want.
