I have always used a replacement from Yamaha, but
perhaps another brand floppy drive would work if it
used
the same amount of power to run it and the cable
connections would match.  The software in the MX80
Disklavier ONLY reads Yamaha proprietary ESEQ (.fil)
format from a double density 720k floppy.

However, you could play music on the MX80 from a laptop
or desktop computer, equipped with a MIDI interface and
one MIDI cable connected to the MIDI IN on the MX80.
Put MIDI format 0 files on a playlist and you are all
set.  Or, you could use the Yamplayer software and put
ESEQ files into a play list.
