Re: [disklavier] Best way to polish piano

The best thing is an old clean T-shirt that is damp
with a little water. For tougher marks, you can put a
little window cleaner, like Windex, on the damp rag.
If we are talking about the black, shiny finish, that
is plastic (polyester), and the scratches can be buffed
out using a very clean buffing wheel. Yamaha does sell
a polish like the Cory cleaning products, but this is
not necessary.

I have seen pianos polished in the shop before delivery
with something like turtle wax, but the consequences
have been sometimes disastrous - like some of the
polish oozing through the lid hinge onto the bass
strings, or the person using the electric buffing wheel
going through the finish on the edges.

NEVER use a furniture polish that contains silicon as
it can migrate into the pinblock where the tuning pins
could become loose. I wouldn't even use Old English
polish!
