Re: Backup Hard drive

2006-09-08 by jheitzeb1

Sam,

I finally got my Mark IV Disklavier to recognize my hard drive. (Lacie USB Fat32 hard drive
160 GB)

(1) I hooked up the USB hard drive.
(2) Shut down the disklavier and then restarting it while the USB hard drive was
connected.
(3) Then I followed the steps in the update booklet and it recognized the hard drive this
time. It took about 36 minutes to backup my songs and photos.

In order to look at the drive, I am using a Macintosh portable which should allow me to
view the hard drive contents. It says there are 0 files and 1.2 GB of data. Not sure if the
files are actually on the hard drive and not sure if it was successful backup. I do not have
a PC that would recognize this USB drive so that I could exam the contents of the drive. So
I am hoping that there is indeed a backup on this hard drive. I have over 100 albums of
midis (from internet) on my Disklavier. Not sure how many gigs that they take up. Was
surprised when Nealpolan said it took him 12 hours to make his backup. Although he had
40 GB of data. Possibly he has a lot more music or audio CD type music on his disklavier.
I know the audio CD data takes a lot of space. Or is it possible that the backup did yield 0
items on my hard drive. I may try again.

One thing, the USB drive that I have has the USB cable connecting the drive to the media
center and then there is a separate other cable that runs between the USB drive and my
portable computer to supply power for the drive. Did you have power on your drive?

It would be nice to have more info and technical help for the Mark IV. Maybe we need to
setup a forum or subfolder with just solutions for Mark IV problems or suggestions.

Hope you are able to get your drive working.
-Joan
