Ann's right, I play in my socks and my sustain pedal always shines!   
However, that leaves two pedals that really look out of place.  So, I use  Brasso to 
shine them.  Takes just a few minutes about once every other  month.  I've 
been doing that since I got the piano three years ago and they  look great.  I 
also use a tiny bit on a cloth to shine up the lock with no  damage to the 
surrounding surface (though that needs it less often for some  reason).
