Hi Everyone, Can someone tell me, what it the best thing to use to clean the brass pedals? Also, I've seen pedal covers somewhere, does anyone know where to get them? Thanks, Ann

I believe the pedals have a lacquer clear coating over the brass - which means it would be a total pain to clean them. You would need to remove the clear coating to get to the brass, and from then on you would constantly need to polish the brass. I know I have seen pianos where the pedals and the brass rods have turned brown, but I don't think I have seen this on a Disklavier. Pedal covers are also a pain because they wear out so quickly then you always see this torn fabric hanging off the pedals. I live on the coast and the pedals look dull, the rest looks fine. If there is a clear coating on them, any ideas what I should use to clean them or do you know how I can get the information? I have a Mark III it's about 2 years old. Ann's right, I play in my socks and my sustain pedal always shines! However, that leaves two pedals that really look out of place. So, I use Brasso to shine them. Takes just a few minutes about once every other month. I've been doing that since I got the piano three years ago and they look great. I also use a tiny bit on a cloth to shine up the lock with no damage to the surrounding surface (though that needs it less often for some reason). --Tim

I vote for Tim's solution. I recently acquired an older Mark II which looks great but all of the pedals were obviously neglected - dull and tarnished. I spent about 10 minutes using silver polish (only thing I could find) and the pedals look twice as good. Some of the tarnishing is just too deep for the extra effort, but given the "five feet away test", they look really good. I didn't encounter any clear coat over the brass. --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, TimSteele@... wrote: > > Ann's right, I play in my socks and my sustain pedal always shines! > However, that leaves two pedals that really look out of place.
