Mark, No, there is no contrast adjustment you can turn but their is a voltage divider network that supplies the contrast voltage to the display. On my unit, this voltage was correct however, I even cranked it up a bit by changing fixed resistor values (I have the Schematic diagrams and an electronics background) and it did not help much. It was indeed the display as odd as that may sound. I have a feeling that if the display was near a window perhaps with sunlight shining on it over long periods of time, the LCD can fade due to the affects of UV. Other than that, it might be an aging problem with the display but in any event, the display needed to be replaced and once it was, operation was and still is totally normal. Having said all that, there is always a possibility you have a different problem but that is where the expertise of a skilled technician would be helpful. LCDs usually don't just completely *fail*. The problem might just be that the contrast somehow got turned all the way down.
