Good evening, everyone. Regarding the message below from yadidisklavier: We are talking about 2 completely different volume control issues: (1) It is true that you can reduce the volume of the piano using the control unit or the remote control for your Disklavier. Internally, the instrument reduces the hammer velocities little by little as you reduce the volume setting. At some point, it engages the left pedal which moves the hammers closer to the strings thus reducing the hammer velocities even further. (2) In my post, I was refering to a MIDI message in the the file itself called "controller 7" or "volume." The possible value ranges for this message are 0 to 127. The normal setting for this parameter is 100 for a Disklavier piano. Early Disklaviers (I think Mark II and before) paid no attention to this message. Your instrument is actually a Mark IIXG and it does pay attention to the controller 7 MIDI message. However, you will not be able to change the controller 7 value without editing the file itself. Regrettably, many MIDI files found on the Internet have the controller 7 value set rather high. In addition, the note-on velocities may be quite high. The result is that the file is much too loud when played on the Disklavier.
