Kevin,
The "CLEAR" button seems to be working fine and does clear out the Search for Text Box
as I suspected. I believe when I was running this testing on my laptop G4 (which runs
considerably slower) than my Mac Pro (that I am now using) ... it may have worked I just
became inpatient for the results and aborted the program as it seemed to hang when it
fact it was just probably my impatience.
I tried the "FIND" button again as well on the Mac Pro and see that it works ... it actually
highlights the file in the Song/Album Title list in the scrolling window. I guess I just
expected it would put the name below in the Now playing text box when that title was
missing. Again, may have been my misunderstanding of what was suppose to occur and
also the slower machine's response.
So I would say these two buttons do indeed work on a Mac as well.
As far as EDITING THE SONG TITLES. I have selected a song and tried pressing the F1 key
on the Mac keyboard .... it appears that I am not able to edit that title. I thought it was
because I was playing the song and also tried after pressing "STOP" and it still did not
allow me to edit the title field. In fact the DKV Browser closed and quit.
First Attempt: EDITING A COMMENT. I first tried double clicking on the second column
(comment field) and a text box came up. The song was playing at the time. I started
typing "this is a comment" and it seemed to be putting the text into the text box,
however, the text was invisible or white. Then the dkvbrowser unexpectedly quit again. I
then realized that I probably should have stopped the song from playing before editing
(just as you do on the pda which has a warning to that effect as I recall). Anyway, now
when I restarted the dkvbrowser, and searched for that song .... the comment was in the
field.
Second attempt: EDITING A COMMENT. I selected another tune in the list. I turned the
piano to stop. I double clicked the comment field and the same thing occured as above. I
was able to type. It seems the field appears to be invisible, but in actually maybe the text
box is so narrow that I am not actually able to see the fonts. The program again
unexpectedly quit. When I restarted the dkvbrowser again, and located that song that I
commented ... the comment was in the field.
Third attempt: EDITING THE COMMENT FIELD. This time was able to type the comment
.... still because the text box is so narrow the text I type seems or appears to be invisible,
but at least this time the program did not quit and after hitting return the text did appear
as typed.
Testing the RATING FIELD. Looks like it is working fine. I am not playing a song. So
possibly this is why I was getting the weird rating field problem before. I just need to
realize that when in EDIT mode, stop all playing first.
So looks like I can add in comments and ratings, but CAN NOT edit titles or filenames.
I have made it a point in past that if it is popular song and known author I sometimes
include this in the song titles at the end of title in parenthesis. So I do have some singers
in titles which helps bring up some of the songs in a search. The comment field idea is a
good one for storing such info.
My husband has made a note to me that when "QUIET MODE" has been selected the
volume control has no effect on the speaker volume. We hardly ever use "Quiet Mode" so
this is of little consequence for us. It is my guess that the volume control that you have is
basically for the piano midi mode only.
In the documentation, there is a reference to "REFRESH". I do not seem to have a menu
option or button in dkvbrowser that indicates REFRESH.
I find that the LOAD & PLAY button does work, but on a Macintosh if you double click the
song title it automatically loads and starts to play the song, which is what a normal Mac
user would probably do and was glad that it worked as I hoped it would.
On the Mac version we do not have a + to EXPAND THE PLAYLIST. We have RIGHT ARROWS
(next to the album names) and if we click on them they become down arrows and the
songs in the playlist are displayed below the playlist folder name.
The Macintosh mouse doesn't normally have a RIGHT or left button like the PC mouse,
therefore it is not clear how I would CREATE A NEW ALBUM OR PLAYLIST.
So in conclusion, I would say any options for PC that use F1, F2 or RIGHT CLICKING do
NOT work on the Macintosh. So deleting, editing and adding are not doable on the Mac.
Testing the COPY MODE: When I tried holding down the Ctrl key while dragging a song
from one album to another, I remembered to stop the playing of song first. As I dragged
the file from one album to the other album, a small square (no icon picture inside)
appeared and the menu where 1st option in menu was greyed and second option "to
delete that file " was only option. It did delete the file, but did not copy to the other
folder. No problem as it was a in consequential midi file (glad I didn't select something
important, but heeded your earlier warning).
Testing the MOVE MODE: Worked great. Key here to make sure things are stopped. It
moved the file from one album to another (deleting it from first album and moving it to
second album)
Because of the absence of the RIGHT CLICK BUTTON on the Mac mouse, the DELETE option
is not doable.
HOPE THIS HELPS.

least on a PC), and the majority of what DKVBrowser does to affect the piano it does in the
exact same way as the PDA, so it's relatively safe. The places to tread lightly (and I only
say this to protect myself, really) are where DKVBrowser is doing something that isn't
otherwise available via the PDA (The concept of a MOVE for example doesn't exist on the
PDA), but I now think I have a pretty simple solution for testing when the copy fails, and
that will be fixed in the next version.
