Re: [disklavier] Re: Wireless MIDI Adapter Questions

Greetings Joel,

the frequency of WIDI makes it pretty much line of site. if you are using a desktop computer you should use the X8 pair instead of using an XU unless you use a USB extension to get the XU out in the open. the clearer the path, the better. i have no problem with the XU in the back of my notebook which is in a loft facing away from the loft wall that is over the piano. over the low wall and down to the piano is about 22 feet and the connection is perfect. it also works with my other piano in another room which is through a 10 ft long hall and then another 18 feet (for a total distance of 38 feet with a right angle turn and other minor obstructions) but it does not work from the loft through this hall etc of a total distance, with turns, of about 60 feet. depending on what you mean by "jogging around a few plaster wall corners" it does sound pretty hopeful.

if the computer and piano are both in fixed locations, is there any way to just run a wire? i have run MIDI wires of over 150 feet without problems.

PS if anyone is interested, i have an application that i wrote for sending configuration sysex to the WIDI XU from a windows command line. no idea why anyone would want it but i wrote it for a friend and it does work. i use it myself instead of the program that CME provides but that is just because i have it.
