Ray, Thanks again. I'll try it tonight. I was talking about using my soundcard when I mentioned OMB's sounds...but, in retrospect, that makes no sense at all...of course it's all MIDI. Thanks for the pointer to their yahoo group as well! -Kevin ----- Original Message ---- From: Ray Harman <rayharman@...> To: disklavier@yahoogroups.com Sent: Monday, June 23, 2008 1:40:34 PM Subject: Re: [disklavier] Automatic accomp software? OMB doesn't have any voices. A software synth will give you latency problems. Preferably you need hardware sounds. You can use a soundcard, keyboard or external module for your sounds. I recommend GM or XG compatible equipment. I also have a Yamaha SW1000XG soundcard in my desktop which works very well with OMB. Perhaps one of the external Audigy soundcards will do the job. You can download the demo of OMB and try it out. There is also some good getting started info on the website. There's also a program called MAAS, but I didn't find it as good as OMB and I switched over about 6 years ago. I believe you can re-assign channels with OMB. There is an edit page for that sort of thing but I've never had to do it. I was wondering whether or not to let OMB use the disklavier's voices or to have it use it's own (or a software synth, but I don't think the hardware that I had lying around could support a software synth). Do you know if it supports re-assigning channels? I'm worried that it will use channel 1 for accompaniment, and that will end up pushing down the keys under my fingers... ----- Original Message ---- From: Ray Harman <rayharman@btinterne t.com> To: disklavier@yahoogro ups.com Sent: Monday, June 23, 2008 11:48:06 AM Subject: Re: [disklavier] Automatic accomp software? Yes. I've been using it for a number of years. It's a very popular program. I have a Yamaha PSR 540 and this is connected by midi to my laptop with OMB. This extends the functionality of the PSR. My styles are all on my hard drive and I don't have to keep loading them in on the PSR's floppy. I get to choose either the PSR's accompaniment or the one provided by OMB. The output from OMB goes back to my PSR to use the Yamaha XG voices. Ray, thanks for the pointer. Are you actually using one man band? ----- Original Message ---- From: Ray Harman <rayharman@btinterne t.com> To: disklavier@yahoogro ups.com Sent: Monday, June 23, 2008 11:11:32 AM Subject: Re: [disklavier] Automatic accomp software? One Man Band will do the job for you. http://www.1manband .nl/omb.htm Reads yamaha style files and plays in real time. Turns any keyboard with midi into an arranger keyboard. My uncle has a clavinova which has the cool ability to automatically accompany his playing in realtime by understanding the chord and melody. So, this weekend I decided to finally build a computer to attach to my MkIV expressly to try to find software which would do the same thing. The computer is working fine, and so is the MIDI functionality. ..now I just have to figure out what software will actually do this for me! I played with band-in-a-box a bit...but it does not seem to allow for this sort of thing in real time...it wants you to first enter all of the chords. Is there other software which can do this? Am I asking too much? If it matters, I built the computer running windows 98se. Thanks in advance! -Kevin
