RE: [disklavier] Furniture suggestions?

2008-06-26 by Glenn Smutny

Kevin,

As an architect/builder, owner of a DC3M4 and a self proclaimed neat nick, I
would not want to see the CPU. Remote it or bury it somewhere and then use a
wireless keyboard and mouse. The monitor of course is a flat screen -
minimum 20"+. 30" might get a bit overpowering in the room. With the PC out
of the way, wire the monitor so no cables show. Run it through the wall into
a low volt box right next to the duplex outlet that is going to support the
monitor.

You didn't mention the size of the room, but the file cabinet is a good idea
however kind of uncomfortable to sit at. How about a small antique desk with
an appropriate wooden chair? You could make it just big enough for a nice
lamp on one side and the monitor on the other. The Keyboard goes in the draw
when not in use or is left out because it looks ok without any wire snaking
all over. The problem with this concept - and I have tried it myself, is
that small desks are not meant for marathon WWW excursions. To check you
email and be off in 10 minutes fine, but 2 hours at a desk like that will
not be a pleasurable experience. And then you get into what about the
printer, webcam, camera dock, slide copier, external drives - 2 or 3, ipod
dock etc. etc. etc. On second thought, I would just forget the whole the
whole idea and build a new house. ;-) Give me a call.

Best wishes.

One other thought, how about built-in cabinetry that you could make look
furniture like to bury all that stuff that you need but don't want to see in
a "show" room? Although, that could cost you $10K to $20K by the time your
done - if properly tricked out!

Subject: [disklavier] Furniture suggestions?

I thought this group might be the right place to ask this question.

We've got our DC3M4 in a dedicated room (which also serves as my wife's
"doll room", as she is an avid doll collector) and it looks very elegant
(and sounds amazing, but that's besides the point). Now, however, I'm faced
with the reality that I really want a full fledged computer in that room as
well (it arrives on Monday). The problem is finding furniture that is both
functional and not too unattractive. I'm trying hard not to turn it into
something that looks like a studio, or an office.

I was thinking of a nice black file cabinet with the monitor and keyboard on
top. I could place this on a slight angle next to the piano. This would
also give some storage for sheet music. Not so sure how well this will look
though.

Thoughts? Experience? Anyone have the same dilemma?

Thanks in advance.
-Kevin
