Re: [disklavier] Volume Blast on "Quiet" Setting--What gives?

2008-06-29 by Mike Moore

Kevin -

Thanks for that reply. I played the files again this morning. The first time I switched to "Quiet" mode I quickly adjusted the volume way down using the hand-held controller. That seemed to do the trick, not just for that song but for all of the songs I had downloaded to this folder from that site (I am feeding them into the DKV via my USB cruzer memory stick).

By the way, I didn't find these songs to be any louder than those that I received on floppy disks from the Yamaha store when we bought the piano about a month ago. For all songs we put the volume down to "1." Unless one lives in a concert hall I don't see how you'd want it any louder. Based on your comment, however, I have adjusted the "Piano velocity curve" setting for this set of MIDI files to "Soft 40," which seems to be lowest setting option I have on my Mark IV Pocket Controller.

Regards.

Mike

I just downloaded it and tried it. I had no problems. I've also never heard of this problem. (By the way, that MIDI file really BANGS hard on the keys...if you intend on keeping them, and playing them, you should probably adjust the velocity.)

I did encounter the "Unknown Copy Error No.1." when I tried to copy all of the MIDIs from that site onto my piano though. I've never heard a good explanation of what that means and the MIDI that can't be copied works perfectly when played from the From/To PC folder...

Another "Newbie" Question: I downloaded some MIDI files today, which were playing fine on
the DKV's "acoustic" setting. When I activated the "Quiet" setting via the Pocket Controller,
however, I suddenly was hit with a very loud sound blast from the DKV's speakers. I
switched back right away, because it was so loud I'm sure I could have damaged the system.
Any ideas on how I can suppress this? The Operating Manual does not appear to say
anything on point.

Our system is the Mark IV, DGC1M4. The MIDI files, by the way, came from the following
website: http://www.wtv- zone.com/ gnubee/all_ piano_midis. "Carolina in the Morning" is
one of the songs that reacted this way when I switched to the "Quiet" mode.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Mike
