That looks great Kevin, I think the most important thing here is while the room is more 'busy' it feels very confortable.. So yourself and guests will just 'hang out' in that room and listen to the piano and I am sure have a few wines. If you had it very empty you'll also find the sound very echo'y and dull, plus if the room is unconfortable with nothing much too look at.. You'll find friends that are not 'piano people' might get a bit bored too.. So well done. The mirror looks excellent! the lamps are excellent also...Lamps are possibly one of the best things. However, the best thing you can do for that computer screen is get a nice desk, a small 'presidents desk' they have the BLACK leather top (not green). That would look very cool. Get a nice wireless key/mouse set you can just chuck in the draws, or you can walk around the room with it... I think the fabrick drape over the desk is nice, but you might need to use that somewhere else. The final thing, I suggest, is rather than old ladies tea tables and chairs, find a designer lounge, something confortable and bold so people can relax while sitting down.. Try and find something that is even a L shape so it will fit snug in the oppsite corner to the piano..Ensure that it is black leather... try and keep too much colours away. Also rather than the plastic plant, (although you could keep it still) I would get a big statue, even just a cheapish concrete full length or a bust. You could even go a bit daring and have a mini replica of David. With the carpet if you had the chance (and budget) I would replace it with DARK blood red, nice thickish.. I have done that and it looks unreal with the black piano. (except I have to bloody vacume all the time as it picks up bits of white fluff lol but worth it). Cheers, Philip PS, whats with all the spaces on your links? ----- Original Message ---- From: Kevin Goroway <kgoroway@...> To: disklavier@yahoogroups.com Sent: Tuesday, July 15, 2008 7:28:22 AM Subject: Re: [disklavier] Furniture suggestions? Sigh... Thanks for all of the advice.. Especially the ones that were along the lines of "add more furniture." The room now feels finished, and the dolls are an accent, not the entire room. -Kevin ----- Original Message ---- From: Kevin Goroway <kgoroway@yahoo. com> To: disklavier@yahoogro ups.com Sent: Friday, July 4, 2008 3:23:29 PM Subject: Re: [disklavier] Furniture suggestions? I said I would follow-up, so here it is. The cabinet arrived. It's lower quality than I was hoping for (especially for the price after shipping, etc.) But it is perfectly suited for housing a computer in a very small space. That being said, the wife and I are considering this attempt a complete failure. We're not satisfied with the end result. Here are some photos. I couldn't get the whole room in one shot, so I took two so that you can get an overall feel for the size/"audience" . http://home. comcast.net/ ~kgoroway/ piano/RoomRight. jpg http://home. comcast.net/ ~kgoroway/ piano/RoomLeft. jpg http://home. comcast.net/ ~kgoroway/ piano/Cabinet. jpg http://home. comcast.net/ ~kgoroway/ piano/CabinetOpe n.jpg The last shot shows the tablet remote placed in the cabinet, a movable shelf above that holds the headphones. On the right is a nice roll out file drawer for sheet music. The shelf above that is also on rollers, and pulls out smoothly. Of course, the keyboard is on a sliding shelf as well. Since this is considered a failed attempt, I didn't take the time to really make it right. The flat panel is a spare 24" I have. I think a gloss black 22" or so would be nicer. Even 19" would probably be sufficient. The keyboard and mouse are wired cheap versions thrown in with the computer, and the pocket remote is still on the piano since I didn't have an outlet strip to plug it into behind the cabinet. There are also two cables between the computer and the piano that I would end up routing more cleanly...but. ..we aren't happy enough with it to pursue. I'm still open to suggestions. In the meantime, I went out and bought a Yamaha NP-30 at the local Sam Ash: http://www.musician sfriend.com/ product/Yamaha- NP30-Digital- Keyboard? sku=702663&src=3SOSWXXA The idea was that if I can't have a dedicated computer in the piano room, I could have a dedicated keyboard in the computer room. Not a bad solution, but the NP-30 is going back. The keyboard just isn't high enough quality (non-weighted) for it to be a C3 replacement. There are VERY few fully weighted non-88 key keyboards out there...I don't want the full 88 keys in the computer room due to the size...so I'm shopping around in that area as well... -Kevin ----- Original Message ---- From: Kevin Goroway <kgoroway@yahoo. com> To: disklavier@yahoogro ups.com Sent: Friday, June 27, 2008 12:48:29 PM Subject: Re: [disklavier] Furniture suggestions? Not intending to take it private. More than one person has already expressed interest in the conversation. My wife wasn't terribly impressed with the whole idea, but we re-arranged some of her dolls and created the required space for that "computer cabinet" that I linked to. I ordered it last night. I'll take pictures and give a review when it arrives. In the meantime, I'm looking around for flat panel LCDs that has a high gloss black bevel to try to match the piano (even though the tablet and pocket remote don't). It would be great to find a computer monitor that also supports composite video in (since that's the video connection that the Disklavier wants), short of that, I may put a video card in the computer that supports video "in" so I can display the Diskalvier's video output in a window on the desktop. I'm planning on removing the tablet AND the pocket remote from permanent placement on top of the piano. We'll see how it looks soon enough. -Kevin ----- Original Message ---- From: James Fry <groups@jamesfry. com> To: disklavier@yahoogro ups.com Sent: Friday, June 27, 2008 12:21:50 PM Subject: Re: [disklavier] Furniture suggestions? No, do NOT take it private. Please keep the discussion ON the list - that's what they are for. It is trivial to mark things as read / uninteresting / whatever in most mail clients, and even easier to remember which threads annoy you and manually avoid them. I'm interested by these solutions - elegant or not, and I know I am not the only one. Having the discussion archived is useful for new and old members alike to search in the archives. Not everyone has oodles of money to spend on furniture, and their piano may well be the biggest purchase they ever make in their lives, so derogatory comments about the quality of furniture people have in their houses are completely out of place. Perhaps you need the do it yourself brain kit before someone does it for you?
