Good afternoon, everyone. Unless things have changed substantially since the last time I looked, GarageBand will record MIDI Input but will not play back MIDI tracks using output to an external MIDI device. Instead, it uses internal sounds for MIDI playback. Fortunately, there is a plug-in that will add external MIDI Output to GarageBand: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/23227 I have not used this plugin. Since you are using a Yamaha UX 16 MIDI interface, you will need to install the Yamaha USB MIDI driver for your computer: http://www.global.yamaha.com/download/usb_midi/index.html Once the interface driver is installed as well as the plugin, you will have to choose the UX 16 as your MIDI Output device in GarageBand. (The same is true with any other MIDI program.) If your Disklavier has a To Host switch, you need to set it to MIDI. Lastly, you will need to match the MIDI channels of your piano tracks in GarageBand to the Disklavier's MIDI Input Channels. For simplicity, I recommend that you set your Disklavier's PianoReceive option to Channel 1 and that you put your piano tracks in GarageBand on Channel 1. NOTE: If you are creating additional tracks besides the piano tracks, you should normally route those tracks to the Disklavier on channels other than channel 1. If your Disklavier has an internal tone generator or if you have connected an external tone generator to your Disklavier, everything should play in sync. If, however, you let GarageBand play your other tracks using your computer's internal sounds, you will find that they are 1/2 second ahead of the piano.
