I've never tried Veloset, but I believe I know what it is. Assuming that all the files that didn't work did not come from a single faulty source, my suggestion is to invest in a proven sequencer that would give you the capability of examining and modifying MIDI files and not waste your time. Power Tracks by PG Music is quite capable and inexpensive ($29). See www.pgmusic.com Cakewalk costs more, but would also do the job nicely.
