Re: [disklavier] Which MIDI format sound best on Mark III

2008-10-15 by Dokhanchi

I just realized that. theer is really no need to put files on a CD if there is a floppy. I might as well connect the laptop if I really need it. Thanks
Now if I can only read which midi format is best for my Mark III and how to change the format (if possible).

You can put Midi files on a CD that plays on a Disklavier.
http://dp70. dyndns.org/ mid2pianocd/

The midi files are converted to wav files so you can only put about 15-20 songs on a CD.

This only makes sense if you only have a CD player or you want to combine a Pianosoft Smart disk with the matching Midi file.

However if you have a floopy drive on your Disklavier you can put about 70 midi files on a floppy (depending on the file size).

All are "pure" MIDI standards not exclusive to DKV's, so all of them should play fine in a Mark III, given that the "Channel set up" in the DKV correspond to the files, so that the p iano play the piano parts and the orchestral sounds are played by the sound module.
But what about the Yamaha own MIDI file standards for the DKV.
Which ones play in the Mark III Bob has and which ones don't?
Also, he wants put the MIDI files in a CD and play it on the DKV, as far a I remember this won´t work.
He said he has an DGC1-B

(Mine is a Mark II, so i can't remember)

MIDI format 0 and MIDI format 1 will play on your Disklavier. The XG sounds
are the best on your list and Yamaha developed them! GM stands for General
MIDI which was standardized in the 1980's. Originally MIDI was in different
proprietary formats and the various systems could not talk to each other.
XG was the next generation of GM.
