Re: [disklavier] Downloading music for MARK 4

2008-10-18 by Phil Blah

Hey Mark,

Yeah I am a bit annoyed at the cost per song. up to $4.50 per song!! in Australia our $ is crap at 70c per USD so it costs heaps.

I am also annoyed at the fact that as a 'radio subscriber' I don't get any PROPER discounts or 'free downloads'. Also there are so many BAD versions of modern songs that the 'preview' does not go long enough to really decide.

I think there should be 2 levels of subscription....

Standard $15.99 per month (service like now)
Gold $23.99 per month*

* 5 free songs per month, 10 trial songs per month - own/play for 48 hours, plus 50% off 'retail' prices, so for me at least it would be $2.25 per song :)

Also, Yamaha needs to get with the times and have Piano +Audio downloadable, we all have broadband these days, whats 20meg per .wav or even 600meg for a whole CD?

Anyway just my 2cents again lol

Philip

I'd like to discuss the options for purchasing music from Yamaha.
Currently, the only option is to purchase the music (say after
hearing it on Yamaha Radio) by for example downloading it over the
internet to you piano.

In the mp3 world, there are two major options available depending on
user preference. The first is as above, you hear something, you buy
it, you download it and store it on your local device.

The other option is a subscription service (much like the Yamaha
radio) where you pay a fixed monthly fee and in return get access to
unlimited 'on-demand' music from the entire remote library. (An
alternative is a pay per listen option). This can either be streamed
live (or buffered for the purposes of immediate playback only so it
can't be copied). To clarify, in this instance, the listener chooses
the specific piece of music they want to hear (as opposed to
Disklavier Radio which is pre-selected for you based on genre.)

Which one you opt for is usually down to individual preference, and
people's attitude to ownership and choice. For me, I prefer choice
over ownership - it is not important that I own the music, but that
I listen to what I want when I want.

Would other owners find this alternative valuable?
