If there was a problem with a hard drive when the Mark IV first came out, even Yamaha Service in most countries had to either clone a good drive to it or replace the drive with a pre-programmed one from Yamaha in Japan (there isn't even a part number for a blank hard drive for this model).

Another point is that many customers (at least here in the UK) see their Mark IV more as an entertainment centre than a piece of technology to experiment with and are not really interested in diving into the technicalities of it. I suspect that the amount of interest in the technical aspects of this model shown on DUG is more a reflection on the number Mark IV customers in the US than an indication of the desires of Mark IV users in general, i.e. most customers are happy with the piano as it is and are content to just hit the 'Play' button and sit back. I can vouch for the fact that at least a few Disklaviers were bought by people who never played piano in their life and have no desire to start now. Mind you, it is exactly these customers who would benefit from having extra storage space for pre-recorded material (as long as someone else installs it for them)
