Wouldn't it be much easier to just see if your son uses books that  come with 
MIDI files that you could buy, or ask if the teacher can get  him a few books 
with MIDI's.
 
Easy to go from MIDI to music, hard to go from music to MIDI.
 
Another solution would be to have someone play the songs, and simply record  
them. If he is 6, the music must be pretty simple.
