coverting cd audio to midi

2008-12-13 by mitchharwood

have been trying to covert cd audio files of piano songs my 6 years
son is learning to midi files so my son can see how songs are played.
am using tall stick"s ts audio to midi 3.20 but it keeps producing
extra notes on the high end, and the filter doesnt seem to suceed in
cutting it out even though i manually set it that way. does anyone
have a good program that can also be set to convert a batch of files,
like and entire cd without having to load and save each file. Please
help. have tried several programs and paid for full upgrades.

These audio-to-MIDI programs generally don't work very well. If you
don't play yourself, why not just have your son's piano teacher stop by
and record the pieces directly to MIDI format on your Disklavier?

Also get his/her opinion on whether playing by imitation is a good idea
at this age. I think it might detract from the sightreading/theory
instruction that I assume is underway.

Greetings mitchharwood,

there is no such thing as a good WAV to MIDI program yet. maybe in 2
to 10 years or so. forget about batch processing, if it doesn't even
work for a single tune how can you expect it to work with different
ones which require different setting? all current WAV to MIDI programs
produce MIDI files that require extensive editing. unless you are
prepared to do this, it makes more sense to hire a pianist to record
the piece on a MIDI keyboard.

Wouldn't it be much easier to just see if your son uses books that come with
MIDI files that you could buy, or ask if the teacher can get him a few books
with MIDI's.

Easy to go from MIDI to music, hard to go from music to MIDI.

Another solution would be to have someone play the songs, and simply record
them. If he is 6, the music must be pretty simple.

Blessings,

Wanda

Good morning, everyone.

I agree with Wanda about the MIDI files that come from the publishers
of various teaching books. There are thousands of such files, ranging
from MIDI files with orchestrated accompaniments to piano solos.

Mitch, what is your son's playing level? What books and/or pieces is
he currently studying? I may be able to suggest specific MIDI albums.
