it may be the wrong mixer . it may not deal with low impedance inputs correctly. you can try the radio schack cheapo mixer which you can get easily and can return just as easily if it doesn't work. it can be run from a battery which will eliminate any power supply sourced hum. i am not sure if it will like a low impedance input from the rca jacks so you may also need rca to 1/4" phono adapters to use the mic inputs. Radio Design Labs has a variety of solutions but they tend to be pricey. These are what I use on my Live Performance LX pianos but i find the Radio Design Labs devices on E-Bay.
it is quite possible that you have a grounding problem causing the hum or a bad shield on one of the wires. especially if youhave an impedance mismatch and need to compensate by added gain, it can be extreme. all the connecting cables must be of good quality. no reason to go nuts with monster cables for $50 each but they should not be cheapos either. substitute different ones and see if it makes a difference. oxidation on contacts can be the problem but most devices and cables use gold plating today and this should not be a problem in new stuff. it is possible that you have a ground loop and need to isolate either the power supplies or the input to the mixer.
there are so many possible sources for hum that unless you have an oscilloscope it is best to just substitute parts, starting with the most readily available until you fix it. even a tiny section of unshielded cable (or really badly shielded cable) can cause a lot of hum so quality can really make a difference. if possible do not buy cables at radio schlock. they are generally very bad. a good stereo shop should have intermediate quality cables that should work. for rca cables. the ones that come with av equipment are generally OK even the cheap ones because they have to be decent for video. crappy adapters can cause problems so try to avoid them.

Hi Bill,
I hooked the Rolls MX22 mixer to the output jacks on the E3 unit and got sound through the speakers but with a hum . Yamaha suggessted I could try the Omin out jack ,same results. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Joe
