Re: Network Settings

Thanks Brian,

I looked at AE utility after reading your post and I believe that it now has more security than when I originally set it up, so guess I need to pursue looking at it again. I just hate to mess with it since it is working well with my Mark IV and DKVBrowser software that is available.

I use a 2WIRE router (part of ATT’s broadband I have) and first enabled ‘Wireless Security’ there. He recommended I use the high-level WPA2-PSK authentication and use an eight alphanumeric character password. When that was done, I began configuring the directly connected AE. I selected the WEPA2-PSK wireless security option in the AE utilities, and entered the password there. They then were able to ‘speak’ to each other in a secure environment. Does that help?

The way I did (which was part of my original process with the 40 minute Apple techie), was to hardwire (direct-connect) the AE to the network by plugging the AE directly into the router with an ethernet cable. This enabled my network to identify and connect to the AE. I was then able to configure it with all the security, etc. Before I hardwired, there was nothing in my AE Utility that showed any device to which it could be connected. The network never saw the AE wirelessly until it was hooked up directly, now it does. Hope this helps.

There was so much done during the call I could never re-count it all. It involved Windows network settings, Mac router settings, encryption settings, and my firewall settings. Once done, it works fine with my new Live Performance LX. I wish I could say iTunes works well delivering the data, but it is really unstable (it locks up, and often won't start at all). I use Winamp to play my audio tracks over my home theatre pc server--it works flawlessly and has amazing plugins available. There is a new plugin for Winamp called Airfoil I am studying that may hopefully substitute iTunes altogether. I am hoping it will deliver the accompanying music through my home theatre sound system.
