Network Settings

Network Settings

2009-11-29 by dcgreen2008

I installed a new Airport Express Router and now have trouble determining my correct network settings to punch into the prc-100 so I can access the internet through my linksys bridge. Anyone have any thoughts?

Re: Network Settings

I spent almost 40 minutes with an Apple tech going through the motions to get mine dialed in, using a 2Wire wireless router. There was so much done during the call I could never re-count it all. It involved Windows network settings, Mac router settings, encryption settings, and my firewall settings. Once done, it works fine with my new Live Performance LX. I wish I could say iTunes works well delivering the data, but it is really unstable (it locks up, and often won't start at all). I use Winamp to play my audio tracks over my home theatre pc server--it works flawlessly and has amazing plugins available. There is a new plugin for Winamp called Airfoil I am studying that may hopefully substitute iTunes altogether. I am hoping it will deliver the accompanying music through my home theatre sound system.

A very nice alternative on Windows to both iTunes and WINAMP is the free
audio player Foobar2000 at http://www.foobar2000.org

In spite of the silly name, it has a clean, easy-to-use interface,
comprehensive codec support (including FLAC), and no nagging, ads,
spyware or malware built into it. It is much less bloated than iTunes
and WINAMP, and it has a decent plug-in architecture.

I'm considering writing a plug-in for it to stream MIDI and ESEQ
material in formats compatible with the various player piano systems,
including Disklavier and Live Performance LX formats, eliminating the
need to pre-encode material with MID2PianoCD. The main obstacle with
this approach is that MIDI and ESEQ files don't include the detailed
tagging (title, composer, pianist, album art etc.) that people have come
to expect when using jukebox software like iTunes, nor are there any
universally-accepted conventions for adding these details to such files.

For those who are willing to put in the effort, pre-encoding with
MID2PianoCD and then tagging the resulting MP3 files makes it possible
to embed as much information as you like using tools like mp3tag at
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html

Greetings bcasey2010,

for some reason i did not get the original e-mail from the person looking to hook up an airport express and itunes. it can be done in windows and mac. i have both of my LX pianos connected this wayusing PC with XP and win & and a couple of macs too. and can give advises or write a doc. send me a private e-mail if you want to talk about this. best to join an existing network but you can also go directly to the express.

I would really appreciate the method for getting my linksys bridge working with the airport express
need to now if the bridge is to be specifically set up? what are the disklavier network settings, and do I need to do anything to the airport express?

Has anybody seen the Celtic Woman performance on PBS? It appears that
Music Director David Downes is playing a Yamaha Disklavier. There is a
sample of this performance at http://www.celticwoman.com/trellis/The_Music

Nice to see a Disklavier used for a major performance. It will be nice
to see a CD of this music for the Disklavier.

I am also glad to hear this, lets hope it's done properly.

I wonder if anyone else is dissapointed with the way songs are recorded. It seems that only a small handful of pianosoft with audio is actually "live" such as sue downs and tom zink... but otherwise well known artist's like Elton John's recordings are just complete rubbish played by someone else (and badley)... and they keep on going on about this "red piano" that he played live... but... you don't get any live performances. Also Diana Krall songs are increidablly horrible... none are actually played by Diana... the list goes on... even Burt Bacharach classics sound pretty lame.

Otherwise most disklavier pianosoft + audio songs are by unknown artists..

I am also annoyed at so many songs that are just so souless, the whole 'beat' is just so strict and boring.

Just to continue my winge, why can't anyone at yamaha bother to play a POP song just a bit more suitable for the piano.... come on! i mean most pop songs (on the disklavier radio mostly) are just so spammy, its like a big mobil phone tune with the piano playing along... they don't even try and have a piano only romantic version of any pop songs...

And I am not interested in those ridiculous live songs on the piano radio, not nice music to listen to, just intence dramatic classicical stuff... boring. Has yamaha got anything "live" other than boring classical stuff?

Oh well, i'll just have to record my own songs :)

ofcorse I am more than happy to pay good $$ per song for anyone who is willing to recoring nice pop songs :)

Cheers,

Philip

Re: [disklavier] Was Re: Network Settings, now Pianosoft quaility

2009-12-10 by Kevin Goroway

Phil, I couldn't agree more re: the overall quality of the songs in the pianosoft library.

Yamaha does have an "original artist series" which tends do be much better (because it's the original artist!)

Unfortunately, I haven't found a good way to *search* for titles in that series on their web site!

Anyway, I don't think any of it would qualify as "pop", but the songs haven't been reduced down to "muzak" versions, at least.

Try running Airport Utility, on the initial screen you should see any airport devices on the left. Click on the airport express and you should see the address on the right.

Hope that helps,

Hi

My experience with reconfiguring Airport Express , was that I had to reset the device using a paper clip then do as you suggested once in the utility I had to enter the security code I set up for my system . If you have an unsecured system than that step is not necessary . So if I'm understanding this correct you have used Airport Express to connect the the Internet wireless? If this is correct what kind of router and are you running Windows?

Thanks
Joseph

As a sidebar, my Airport Express fell off the grid this week so I had to `find it'. The way I did (which was part of my original process with the 40 minute Apple techie), was to hardwire (direct-connect) the AE to the network by plugging the AE directly into the router with an ethernet cable. This enabled my network to identify and connect to the AE. I was then able to configure it with all the security, etc. Before I hardwired, there was nothing in my AE Utility that showed any device to which it could be connected. The network never saw the AE wirelessly until it was hooked up directly, now it does. Hope this helps.

bcasey,

I am assuming you are on an Apple, is that right? If so, your statement of hardwiring via ethernet cable provided security, is that right? I have a Mac using Apple Express and have not had a secure connection, hoping this may be my solution to securing my network.

Re: [disklavier] Re: Network Settings

2009-12-20 by Brian Casey

Hi Joan, I use a PC that uses 64 bit Vista. I didn’t have anything wireless in my home until I set up the AE to my Live Performance LX. Remember, before I could configure the AE, I needed it hooked up to the router with the ethernet cable.

To start, the secure connection I created, led by the Apple techie, was in the wireless settings of my broadband/router program. I use a 2WIRE router (part of ATT’s broadband I have) and first enabled ‘Wireless Security’ there. He recommended I use the high-level WPA2-PSK authentication and use an eight alphanumeric character password. When that was done, I began configuring the directly connected AE. I selected the WEPA2-PSK wireless security option in the AE utilities, and entered the password there. They then were able to ‘speak’ to each other in a secure environment. Does that help?

bcasey,

I am assuming you are on an Apple, is that right? If so, your statement of hardwiring via ethernet cable provided security, is that right? I have a Mac using Apple Express and have not had a secure connection, hoping this may be my solution to securing my network.

Thanks Brian,

I looked at AE utility after reading your post and I believe that it now has more security than when I originally set it up, so guess I need to pursue looking at it again. I just hate to mess with it since it is working well with my Mark IV and DKVBrowser software that is available.
