No, these audio tracks are made to be played on a Disklavier...not via iTunes, or anything else. iTunes happily plays them because they are in a standard audio format (that the piano also happens to want). If you played them back on your Disklavier, you would hear the audio tracks just fine, and the high pitched sound on the other channel would be absorbed by the piano. The piano uses that information to actually *play* the piano keys along with the background accompaniment. As Carol says, other piano manufacturers have different encoding schemes. I could also produce sample files for those pianos, but I started here since I *know* what they sound like on my Disklavier (DC3M4t). Please follow the instructions in my earlier email to play them back on your piano. I can see that the files have been downloaded numerous times, so I'd love to hear any opinions. Thanks! ________________________________ From: Carol Beigel <thecarolb@...> To: disklavier@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sun, January 3, 2010 12:10:12 AM Subject: Re: [disklavier] Any interest in some high quality jazz improv? With these CDs, the MIDI is on one track and the audio is on the other. I think this is how the companies got around the copyright - one company put the audio on the Left channel and the MIDI data on the R, and the other company switched tracks. iTunes does not play MIDI files. The hum you hear is the MIDI data. These are not normal audio CDs. If you wanted them to be, then you would need to use the proper codecs (41000Hz and 16bit). The MIDI files would need to be run through virtual instruments to make them audio tracks, and the entire CD would need to be mastered - IF you wanted to produce an audio CD. OR, all the files on the CD could be MIDI files with the accompaniment being MIDI files played through a tone generator. If you really wanted to make MIDI plus audio CDs for the Disklavier, you may need to switch the L and R tracks witht he audio and MIDI.
