Re: [disklavier] Any interest in some high quality jazz improv?

2010-01-06 by Kevin Goroway

I don't understand why it doesn't play on the LX correctly if the LX is supposed to support these file types. I think Mark is probably in the best situation to say why that is the case!

Anyway, it certainly isn't "all choppy" on a Disklavier...And the acoustic/accompaniment balance is set perfectly to play back on a Disklavier in its "reset" volume configuration.

As for compression...I'm not terribly concerned right now since these were just samples. If there had been more interest, I was going to produce a large number of these in native formats for all player pianos, arranged as albums to sell for whatever price the market demanded ...but that just doesn't seem to be the case.

I think I could talk the artist out of the electronic piano sound that he really likes backing the acoustic piano, but if no one wants this music anyway, I get to avoid that delicate conversation. :-)

Greetings Kevin,

My LX plays other DKV/audio files perfectly. I rarely listen to them
and only tested your file with a crappy amplified computer speaker,
not a good stereo which is in another room. I found the acoustic piano
to be very choppy, going on and off with no real relationship to the
accomp. It might sound better with a higher volume from the accomp.
Why is most of the piano a digital piano on the accomp and only
scattered real piano? I thought the idea of a disklavier was to sound
like a piano? Personally, I would like all the piano to be acoustic. I
just don't understand the reason for the accomp piano.

I think you can get better compression with LZMA compression than with
zip. I was expecting better compression because I compress piano only
files not piano with accomp. Since the accomp and piano alternate in
the WAV file it makes sense as Mark suggests that the compression
would be less.
