What kind of cable did you buy?  If it was a USB MIDI interface, try 
reversing the cables to the MIDI IN and the MIDI OUT ports.   Does your 
computer see the MIDI interface?  What software are you using to record the 
songs to or play the songs from?  Whatever it is, it should have an Options 
in the menu.  Make sure your software is looking at your MIDI interface.
