Carol,

My DKC55RCD has a R and L Audio/Analog Midi in port but because it is an
input port, not an output port I assumed that it wouldn't work to connect my
powered speakers to that port. Also, the Mark III product manual indicates
that there is not an audio amplifier for the upright, but it does have an
amplifier for the grand. I'm guessing that the built in speakers for the
Mark III grand are not powered independently of that amplifier, whereas the
speakers that can be connected to the upright Mark III must be powered
speakers.

Given what you indicated about the logic being different for each
Disklavier, I am (happily) surprised that the controller for the Mark III
works with my Mark II XG. Someone else commented that the CD port on the
back of my DKC55RCD controller connects to an audio card that is built into
the main electronics of the Mark III upright. The DKC-850 controller must
have a similar card built into it. Otherwise, the cable that plugs into the
CD port on the back of the DKC55RCD could not be ignored when the DKC-850 is
used to replace it. I wonder if it is possible to somehow connect the CD
port of the DKC55RCD to a sound card such as the Yamaha DB50XG, and then
connect the sound card to external speakers?
