I'm not sure exactly how it works in Australia, but Yamaha Australia (a bona fide subsidiary of Yamaha Corporation of Japan) would quote the official Yamaha price (in the UK it used to be called "Recommended Retail Price" - RRP). It's up to individual dealers to work out what price they are willing to sell a product for (within certain constraints). See if you can locate an authorised Disklavier dealer and see what price they could get it for (being quite new and a bit of a specialist product, it's not surprising that few dealers have them stock - but they should be able to order one for you)

Most authorised Yamaha dealers in Australia - and I live in Sydney - won't carry the item and referred me to Yamaha Australia (which is not a Yamaha company I understand, but a distributorship). Their price is AUD2,990. This doesn't compare well with US prices, which appear about USD1,600. Even if I allow for shipping and tax, it would be much cheaper to import one from the USA - I estimate it will cost less than AUD2,000. Not keen on Yamaha's pricing and support in the antipodes.
