The DKC0850 can be used two ways: - As a replacement control unit for MarkIIXG and newer Disklavier pianos - As an add-on control unit for earlier Disklavier models. The add-on unit connects to the piano's original control unit via MIDI cables. Connecting it using MIDI (IN/OUT) instead of the piano controller cable (many pins) direct to the DKV? This is only in older DKV ones, pre MARKII XG, true? Regards. ___,,,^..^,,,___ 2011/3/22 athomik <mangez@...<mailto:mangez@...>> The DKC850 has certain limitations when compared to the E3 series. I believe that the internet radio limitation, when used as an add-on, is down to copyright issues (i.e. it won't let you record live streamed, original performances via MIDI). The ability to play back ppp is, to a large extent, down to the technology of the key drive system. Before the Mark IV was introduced, there was no sophisticated servo system. This means that, on earlier Disklaviers, the solenoids hit the keys at a preset velocity, according to the MIDI information received and the data stored in the piano tables during calibration. There was no real-time control over the position of the keys, so even the most quiet notes had to be hit at a velocity which would guarantee that the inertia of the key, action and hammer is overcome and that particular note would sound (i.e. the hammer hits the strings). With the new Disklaviers, the servo feedback system allows the piano to work out exactly where the solenoid is at any time in relation to the keys and hammer, giving much more precise control. athomik
