Kevin-- Thx much for the rapid response (and the excellent app DKVB)! I managed to find a 32-bit version of Java RTE (http://www.filehippo.com/download_jre_32/download/2cbe7a61d860cbe579a430f455875d07/) and downloaded into the same folder as the DKVB install. That got everything working fine... DKVB didn't like the 64-bit which Oracle/Sun is forcing on us at the moment.
