>The market is smaller. True, but simple economics will tell you that that's irrelevant. Say you have one hundred potential customers interested in a title. If you sell the disk for $30, and only 5 of those people are willing to pay that ridiculous price, you made $150 per 100 customers. But if you price it at $12 and sell 15, you made $180. More people are willing to buy at a reasonable price. Myself and many others would actually purchase two or three disks at $12 a piece, meaning youd make even more. Think of it this way... if I spend $500 at $30 a disk, I have about 16 disks. If I spend $500 at $12 a disk, I have about 41 disks. There's no way Id pay $500 for 16 titles! But 41? Definitely. >The cost is much higher to produce these disks. The >editing and musician cost is higher. The market is smaller. How do you figure that? Sound engineers are very expensive, and they work with real acoustic data. MIDI is a very simple digital format, and is comparatively easy to edit. I'm also not sure why you would think the musician cost is higher. >These disks are not audio disks produced by the 1000 >The cost is much higher to produce these disks. The cost of a floppy disk in bulk is around 15-25 cents. The cost of bulk CDs is approximately 2-4 times that cost. You can duplicate magnetic floppy disks at a higher rate than you can stamp CDs. The capacity of a floppy disk is ~1.4MB versus a ~640MB CD. The printed sticker labels on floppy disks are also cheaper than the printed top of a CD. > I do not see drastic price drops in the music so >your investment may sit idol I certainly didnt buy a disklavier for playback of commercial software, or else I would have bought one many years ago. I bought mine so I could record and use the silent feature of my MPX1Z in my apartment without bothering the neighbors. No loss for me, just Yamaha. > >*********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** > >On 8/21/2001 at 10:03 AM Donald Dusenbury wrote: >These disks are not audio disks produced by the 1000 >The cost is much higher to produce these disks.
